DESCRIPTION

A coworker in Boston clued me in to cold oatmeal AKA overnight oats. It quickly became my go-to breakfast. This dish checks a lot of boxes - portable, quick, filling, nutritious and delicious. So what if it looks like baby food? I made these one morning for a coworker here in Asheville and he loved it.

I tried this with regular rolled oats but they get a little mushy for me. Steel cut oats stay chewy, even if you forget it in the fridge and eat them the next day. The same thing goes for the whole chia seeds. I tried ground chia once but it became super gelatinous.

Hemp seeds also greatly improved the texture and add incredible nutty flavor. Thankfully I can get the three main ingredients in bulk from Costco but they're available in Ingles or any grocery store. They're all dry goods and keep for a long time in the pantry.

I have a notorious sweet tooth so I usually add two sweet ingredients. Being an adult is allowed to be fun sometimes. A squeeze of honey and some berries or marshmallows are so good. Add your favorite granola for some crunch and more flavor.

I'll double or triple the ingredients to fill an insulated food jar and graze over the morning. 🐮 These oats give all day energy with no crash, perfect for any physically active job or getting the most out of your workout routine.
